Part 2 of "The Seven Worlds of Doorsmith Bloom,"
known as "Symphony
#2: The Three Dreams"
(a.k.a. "The Hopeful, the Hopeless, and the Human Seed")
was composed in 1987 and recorded in 1996. This
symphony depicts the three dreams of Doorsmith Bloom:
dark and somber, optimistic and bright, and yearning or
questing.
This
is a first-class recording with the Ars Symphonia Orchestra,
comprised of many of the top concert-music performers
in Los Angeles.
Chesne
writes: "The musical language of Symphony
#2
is in keeping with my philosophy that great music should
be satisfying and challenging enough to stand up to hundreds
of hearings throughout a listener's lifetime, as well
as to be an attractive enough a work to INVITE the listener
into its world, to be a PLEASURE to absorb. And, while
the architecture may be sophisticated, if it is delivered
correctly, an 8-year old child should still be able to
come away from a hearing with some impression that attracts
them to hear it again. My dream is to see more concerts
in which the audience eagerly awaits new premiers, where
there is enthusiasm and anticipation for an artists latest
efforts. It has become, all to often, alienating. A performance
of a large work should enthrall, enchant, and enrapture
the listener. The music should reach out to the listener,
just as the listener has opened their ears, mind, and
heart to the music."
